Is it about time Web design got a make over? Some of the biggest web designers still make websites that, if you seen in print form, would kill!
Lets take a look:
Sony -
VisitEpically large company. Now, if you look at their site it screams confusion. It's very similar to Apples site in a way (but apples site is, too, hard to navigation for those looking for more information then the basics). But unlike apples, this site is hard to find the basics and hard to navigate... and the fact is, it's shit like this that is leading web design. To me, its old design with a new face. Functions the same but merely looks good.
What about good web design:
FFFFOUND -
VisitNow, this, to me, doesn't look all that fancy. But its easy to navigate. Everything is usable. You are more likely to see this in print because it simply works. And it's not that much harder to create something like this for a big company like sony. Now, I am sure if those large corporate webdesigners put their thinking caps on, they could actually assist in making web design more functional like FFFFOUND but nice looking, like sony. And both those elements matter.
We can't compare it to sites like DeviantART which have a different purpose, but web design seriously needs a make over in my opinion.
We did web design classes this semester and a lot of people make sites similar to sony (basically). But I told my friends to think like designers and try making something you would see in print. Well, my lecturer actually said on our last day to me and my friends that although we may not have recieved the best marks, see was happy to see us look at web design differently. One of my friends made the best site I have ever seen in my life. It was web design with win... and when I get my site up and running again I'll upload it to show you. The site may not be best for all browsers and resolutions, but hell, its amazing.
